Spain is cold at this time of year....at least the part we were in was. This necessitated spending time indoors, and for us, that meant glorious drinks and tapas in some of the most wonderful bars. One in particular, Can Moni in Palamos, was a real treat. A wonderful atmosphere, where artists mix with musicians and writers, very Shadow of The Wind. We spent Thursday evening in happy conversation with Modesto Cuixart and friends. Friday night saw us lighting a fire up at A's house, atmospheric due mainly to the fact that the chimney hadn't been used for 3 years, causing a lovely billowing of smoke into the room, so with doors open to get rid of the smoke we had that strange "scorched at the front from the flames and freezing at the back from the draught" sensation. On Saturday we visited Romanya De La Selva, a tiny village up in the hills outside Gerona. Only one of the two restaurants was open, the other closed due to "Holydays on Cambodian beaches".
I'm hoping it actually meant that the owners had gone to Cambodia on holiday. On the way there we stopped to visit a 4000 year old burial site but we didn't stay as D is fearful of tree moss and it was around the site in abundance. On Sunday evening we returned to Can Moni via El Castellet (a bar with religious relics around) and were given impromptu serenades by a local singer - South American political ballads for D, (oddly, all 3 contained the words "Santiago" and "Pantalones") and a rather awful rendition of Elton John's "Your Song" for me, a la Manuel from Fawlty Towers, but D informs me I managed to look suitably impressed throughout. Monday saw us relaxing, taking a long walk along the beach and closing up the flat until we visit again at Easter. A very good start to this year, followed yesterday by my birthday which was lovely with family around and a superb meal cooked by R.
I continue to be thrilled with the camera in my mobile phone!
