I visited my dad after work tonight. He's still in hospital, but there's been a marked improvement over the past couple of days, and he seems much more positive, with a glimmer of hope for the future. He's making some tentative plans, looking a couple of months ahead, and to be honest, is much more like the dad I used to know, but haven't seen for over 2 years. By contrast, my friend has had bad news. Her first dose of chemotherapy hasn't worked, and she now faces a second, much more aggressive dose of chemotherapy, followed by a bone marrow transplant. As my dad and I walked along in the early evening, the sun came out and hit this gorgeous tree. I'm not religious in a conventional sense, but for a moment, it was awe-inspiring. I offered a non-religious prayer (if there is such a thing), to whoever, or whatever is out there, to help my friend, to make her better. I don't know what else to do.
